The exhaustive search operation for two large objects spotted by a
British satellite has been bolstered by extra military and commercial
vessels and much clearer weather, as officials scramble to cover the
massive 600,000 square-kilometre search area some 2,500 kilometres off
the coast of Perth. Five military aircraft including two Royal
Australian Air Force P3 Orions were dispatched this morning on the
four-hour flight to the search zone. Pictured, a buoy is dropped from a
Royal Australian Air Force plane to measure currents and tides as a
sergeant plots a path to the search zone.
